Meet Alana C. Brown, ESQ., A Cultured Business Founder & CEO

In 2018, Alana founded and formerly served as the Executive Director The Safe Sisters Circle, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides culturally specific, trauma-informed, and holistic services for Black women survivors of sexual and domestic violence living primarily in Washington, DC’s Wards 7 and 8 that has had an positive impact on survivors and that community as whole. After Alana’s transition, the organization continues to thrive under a new rising Black women leader.

Accomplishments as Founder & Former Executive Director

  • Founded a 501(c)(3) successful nonprofit 
  • Envisioned then developed three original, culturally specific, trauma-informed, and innovative programs with impact:
    • East of the River Women’s Legal Services Project
    • Health Justice Mental Health Clinic
    • Survivor Advocacy Services
  • Increased budget from $0 to $1.4 million in 5 years
  • Solicited individual donors for up to $60,000 donations each
  • Created and led a Black women leadership structure
  • Hired and provided leadership, mentorship, and skills development to Black women and women of color staff
  • Implement racial justice and equity in the hiring and management of staff
  • Provided intense subject matter, legal, and mental health training to staff
